Welcome to OUDS
From OUDS
Dear All,
Term's over and it's FINALLY the holidays. It's been a wonderful year for OUDS and I can only thank you all for making it so.
The Committee this year worked hard to bring OUDS to you all and to make sure that our resources were made as widely available and accessible as possible. We don't claim to have finished the job - far from it - or to have done everything perfectly - there's still plenty of room for improvement - but next year's Committee are a talented, enthusiastic and dedicated bunch and I have no doubt will take OUDS to new heights. I wish them all the very best of luck for the year ahead.
One project that the new Committee are working on is the OUDS Parenting Scheme to be launched in its entirety in Michaelmas. It will work like the College Parent system: Wannabe parents should get together, sign up by emailing Sarah Perry (OUDS Freshers Rep) on freshers@ouds.org with details of how many kids you'd like and then put yourself in one of the following categories:
- I am predominantly an actor
- I am predominantly a director
- I am predominantly a producer
- I am a mix of all/some of these things
Parents are responsible for their children's general dramatic well-being, introducing them to our Oxford theatre ways and making them feel at home when they arrive. It can be a seriously daunting prospect trying to get involved in University drama alone and so the Parenting Scheme is designed to give the first bit of support to new Freshers.
For those of you who are looking on with horror at the prospect of fourteen weeks without theatre, fear not, for Oxford students are still walking the boards all through the summer. The OUDS Summer Tour this year performs Master and Margarita in Oxford, London, and Edinburgh; you can check out their venues and book tickets at www.oudsdobulgakov.com. The Thelma Holt International Tour is putting on performances of The Taming of the Shrew, in London, Oxford and Japan. And students across the country are gathering to prepare for a record-breaking presence at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, which will see over a dozen Oxford productions take to the stage in the world's largest arts festival.
Good luck for the year ahead whether you're coming back or moving on. It's been a pleasure everyone.
Over and out,
Roland Singer-Kingsmith
