Welcome to OUDS
From OUDS
Dear All,
We've rolled into second week now and, although it may already feel like fifth, we've still got infinite amounts of theatre to keep our spirits up.
In the line-up this week we have the first Playhouse show of the decade. A new multi-media adaptation of Angela Carter's The Magic Toyshop promises to include physical theatre, projections and live music. Meanwhile at the BT we have a four-star production of Caryl Churchill's Far Away, which deals with themes of war, loyalty and human response to extreme conditions. Finally, on Friday at 5pm, there's an exciting project called Live Canon performing at the OP. Live Canon is an exciting ensemble of actors who perform poetry, from memory, at theatres throughout the UK. This is their Oxford debut and their show, based around the 'War Poets', boasts new a capella arrangements for the poems.
In other news, we are opening applications for the OUDS Summer Tour director and producer. The Summer Tour is one of the most exciting yearly drama projects supported by OUDS. It begins with an Oxford run in preparation for a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with performances potentially also scheduled in London.
As director, you can apply with any play in mind, although we would hope that the vision is reasonably developed and that you may have others in mind to take the role of designer/PM. We are expecting a written application, which must be sent to edinburghtour@ouds.org by Friday 3rd week. It should not be more than five pages long and must include a synopsis and a clear artistic vision, in the form of a director's statement. We strongly suggest that you consider at least some of the production side of things, such as venues, costs and rights (if applicable).
Naturally, our Summer Tour cannot go ahead without a producer either, so we are inviting applications to be Producer for the OUDS Summer Tour as well. The job will involve being in charge of the cast and production team, liasing with venues, sourcing accomodation, being responsible for the budget and finding a marketing manager among other tasks. It is an incredible opportunity to flex your organisational muscles and take control of a show in one of the world's most renowned theatre festivals - where a show can rise and fall on the strength of the producer. To apply please send edinburghtour@ouds.org no more than 350 words by Friday 3rd week telling us why you'd be suitable for the job as well as a résumé of relevent experience.
If you have any questions please email Roland on president@ouds.org or Alessia, last year's producer, on alessia.de-quincey@chch.ox.ac.uk. The interviews for both producer and director will be held on Sunday of 4th in the afternoon.
Also, this term the wardrobe will be open at the same time every Tuesday, Wednesday (BopShop), Thursday, from 1-2pm. We've just had a fantastic new delivery of 40s and 50s items including some military uniforms, so come check it out.
Happy Second Week!
