The Summer Tour is one of the most exciting yearly drama projects supported by OUDS. It begins with an Oxford run in preparation for a trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, with performances potentially also scheduled in London. Not only is it a fantastic opportunity for budding young actors, aspiring directors and producers of all ages to get involved in, but it’s also a prestigious venture which enables the university to show off its talent beyond the realm of Oxford and for OUDS to be represented at the cultural mecca that is the Fringe. Furthermore, it’s great fun and an ideal way to spend part of the summer!

The production kicks off with the producer coming on board and choosing with the committee a suitable play; other administrative issues such as which part of the summer should be booked up and possible venues are also discussed. Applications open in 1st Week of Michaelmas Term and someone is appointed by 8th Week following interviews in 7th. The job involves arranging venues for the different locations, drawing up a budget and managing the finances, finding accommodation for the company, and ensuring the overall smooth running of the production. We are looking for enthusiastic and organized applicants who preferably have experience in the field. Simply send your CV to committee@ouds.org or contact us if you have any further questions and a member of the team will get back to you.

The quest for a director begins in 8th Week of Michaelmas, with written applications also sent to committee@ouds.org. Interviews take place at the start of 1st Week of Hilary Term and the decision is announced at the end of the week. The committee judges according to the strength of the concept; we shall also be taking into account the creativity and marketability of the play, expecting a great level of commitment and passion.

Those interested in applying for either position should not feel daunted or put off: the committee is always at hand to help and assist the production with invaluable advice and expertise. Everyone interested is strongly encouraged to get in touch!
