Assistant Producing/Directing
From OUDS
Is working behind the scenes more your thing than standing in the limelight? If analyzing a text, coming up with a vision, motivating a team and seeing it all come together onstage sound like a good time to you, then consider directing a play in one of Oxford's many theatres: from an intimate two-hander in the Burton-Taylor to an opulent spectacle in the Oxford Playhouse.
But OUDS recognizes that getting a team together, writing up a bid for a theatre and mounting a show can seem potentially daunting for newcomers to drama. That's why we've launched the Assistant Directing Scheme, a way for budding directors to pair up with second, third and fourth-year mentors on a variety of projects. As an assistant director, you'll get to sign on to an existing project and watch and learn about the way Oxford drama works, even as you add your own creative input to the show from auditions to opening night.
Simply submit your name to Barney Norris barney.norris@oxfordplayhouse.com - who is responsible for the scheme - by the end of 6th week HT with some information about the kind of theatre you'd like to work on and we'll do our best to pair you with a director of one of the 25+ Trinty Term shows. And who knows, maybe you'll be inspired to direct one of your own next year...
